My late blooming love affair with foreign movies has not subsided. This is the most rewarding of Krzysztof Kieslowski’s films I have consumed so far. It was big at Cannes earning the always luminous Irene Jacob the best actress award. As good as the film is, the commentary track is like icing on the cake. It is voiced by the author of a book on Kielowski’s work. So not only do you learn about the director’s history, but she certainly knows what this movie represents and how it can be interpreted. I am convinced that this director was a true artist.
a 2nd opinion:
” Compelling, challenging and irresistibly beautiful, this delicate metaphysical masterpiece only emphasises how much cinema lost through Krzysztof Kieslowski’s tragically early death.”
